Commentator Kate O'Beirne, on CNN's The
Capitol Gang, on Saturday, November 9, 2002, in describing why the people voted
Republican in the recent election, said "it's a dangerous world and
people are trying to kill us."
Of course, President George W. Bush embodies a keen
awareness of this truth, and provides us with a visible standard bearer, and leader, who marches
foreward at the vanguard of our armed forces to save the people of America from those who
" ... are trying to kill us." That's certainly a major
component of his popularity. And it should be, because the threat to our national survival is
real.
But, it is equally true, that this whole scenario,
actually embodies the quintessential reason, why President George W. Bush being
Pro-Life anyway, and leading a party that has a Pro-Life platform is the perfect
person to lead the charge in the defense of the thousands of unborn children who will be
slaughtered in the womb today, tomorrow, and every single day, until a Human Life
Amendment to the U.S. Constitution is passed.
This is the crux of the matter. At no time, since 1973,
have the American people been forced into the same shoes wherein the unborn walk. The
unborn, as a group, could say exactly the same thing, "It's a dangerous
world and people are trying to kill us." Let us all make a point to deeply register the
profound truth of this assertion.
As the War on Terrorism continues, the American
people will become more and more familiar with what it feels like to be in fear of their own
lives. This means that in their outlook on life, as it becomes more and more sensitive to how
precious life is, that they will become more and more congruent with the outlook of the
thousands of souls who are murdered in the womb every day, and the thousands who will be
murdered in the womb tomorrow, and the next day, and so on. As the American people
exercise their own sense of self-preservation, as the days, weeks, months, and years go by,
saying to themselves, life is valuable, I want to survive, life is valuable, I want to survive, life
is valuable, I want to survive, they will be far more able, in terms of the flexibility of
sentiment, to exercise that same sense of self-preservation on behalf of the unborn.
And of course, as the nation looks to God more and
more for protection, the realization will gradually dawn upon the collective awareness of the
nation, that we cannot in good faith, ask God to protect us, and expect God to protect
us, if we do not make the same effort to protect His Children in the womb. The spiritual,
emotional, ethical, and philosophical dissonance that exists between the effort to support
abortion rights on the one hand, and the national effort to save our own skins on the other, will
become more and more clear as time goes on.
These two factors, when taken together, make this an
auspicious time for the Pro-Life movement. It is a time wherein we must boldly reach for the
stars, and accept no half-way measures. We must work directly for the adoption of a Human
Life Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
In this respect, this is a wave of unparalleled
opportunity. This wave will slowly rise, and it will slowly crest, and it will slowly roll in along
the coastline, and it will eventually crash upon the beach, dissipating its energy. We must
catch this wave, we must start paddling now, and we must ride it to victory before it dissipates
its energy upon the shoreline.
Now, there will be many who will say that by taking
this approach, that we would be taking advantage of the War on Terrorism, and that's a bad
thing, that it's an opportunistic thing. Let them make that argument, and thereby reinforce the
context for a Pro-Life victory. For how can anyone effectively argue against the proposition,
that if our lives are so dear, and so necessary of being saved from untimely and gruesome
death, that it must follow, that the Children in the womb are worthy of the very same
consideration and protection?
In this regard, more and more Americans will begin to
see the poetic justice in the situation we face, wherein we are forced to confront our own
insensitivity to the value of life in the womb, wherein circumstances are forcing us to consider
how valuable life is, and at the same time, how we deny the value of life to more than a million
human beings every year. And as the nation ponders this deepest of ironies, and all the
profound dimensions thereof, it will have the effect of producing the quality of shame deep
within the hearts of all men and women of good will, and from there, will grow a great passion
for corrective action.
As the mind of the whole nation is turned towards the
all-important issue of self-preservation, this cannot help but to infuse the abortion debate with
the very fires of revelatory illumination.
This proposition obviously carried no weight with the
majority of Americans up until this time, because they had no common ground on which they
could relate to the plight of the unborn. But now, they have this common ground. Now, they
are in fear of their own lives. This may sound crass. But this is the situation that has been
created by the return of the people's karma.
Who can argue against this proposition,
that an All-Powerful God, the sponsor of our nation, consciously chose to stand by and do
absolutely nothing to protect America from the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks? The
truth is displayed before us all in the most self-evident manner. Who can argue against this
proposition, that an All-Powerful God, the sponsor of our nation, consciously chose to stand by
and do absolutely nothing to protect America from the anthrax attacks that followed? The truth
is displayed before us all in the most self-evident manner. Who can argue against this
proposition, that an All-Powerful God, the sponsor of our nation, consciously chose to stand by
and do absolutely nothing to protect America from the series of sniper shootings in the
Washington D.C. area that occurred upon the first anniversary of the original September 11th
attacks? The truth is displayed before us all in the most self-evident manner.
There's a pattern emerging here that the American
people will begin to discern. The womb-like protection that the people of America once knew,
it knows no longer. What happened to the powerful protection that was once associated with
our womb of divine sponsorship? It is collapsing before our very eyes. And if you can fathom
this, the threat of a nuclear detonation on American soil is more real now, than it ever was
during the height of the cold war. Simply amazing.
Therefore, as these realities forge a new structure
within the collective American mind, a new structure of wisdom, a new structure of sensitivity
to the value of all life, this configuration of circumstance will give us the majorities necessary
to win this battle for the protection of the life of the child in the womb.
All of our prayers must be focused on this one-pointed
goal. The very moment we open our eyes in the morning, we must say a prayer to God our
Father, to send his angels to clear the way for the adoption of a Human Life Amendment to the
U.S. Constitution. And we must begin an uninterrupted lobbying campaign with our
representatives in the U.S. Congress, and in the State Legislatures, and with our letters to the
editor, communicating to them, the two key points mentioned above.
1. God will be far more likely to bless our efforts to save the people from the
threat of terrorism, if we, as a nation, would make sure that every child aborning in the womb is
equally free from the threat of terrorism. This idea is not too difficult for any person to
articulate to their elected representatives.
2. As we focus on the value of life in America, and we do whatever is necessary to guard
the American people from the threat of terrorism, let us become increasingly aware of the fact
that life in the womb is of equal value, and that the children in the womb, are equally worthy of
such protection. Neither is this idea too difficult for any person to articulate to their elected
representatives.
Now, President George W. Bush has commented on
the fact that there is no consensus in America, for his desire to see the life of the unborn
protected in law. That was an accurate assessment of the situation prior to September 11th. As
noted, it does not accurately describe the landscape of the collective American mind in the
aftermath of September 11th. As we move forward forthrightly, making our case for a Human
Life Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, the consensus I have described here will begin to
emerge, and President Bush will find that he is the one perfectly positioned to carry that banner
forward to victory. And I believe that he will take up that banner without hesitation, and that
he will carry it forward in the most bold and courageous manner, for there is no other person in
our entire nation more aware of the magnitude of threats we face, and therefore more attuned to
how much we need God's help to win the victory over terrorism, and therefore, how important
it is for us, as a nation, to come into alignment with the Principle of Truth, when it comes to the
value of life for all people, and especially when it comes to the guarding of the life of the
children in the womb. For President George W. Bush, enlisting God's help in the fight against
terrorism, is one of his highest and most important goals.
May God Bless President George W. Bush, and May
God Bless America.
